The LIMEN Project. Languages of Notarial Mediation between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age - presented in this paper - aimed to study the verbal (words, formulas, quotations) and non-verbal (images, material forms, writing supports, numbers and accounting devices) languages adopted by notaries in performing the complex role of mediation between different people, cultures, and instances. the theoretical premises of this role can be traced back to the Classical and Late Antique Ages, but its development can only be understood from a long-term perspective, reaching maturity in the Medieval Age.
