Genealogia del nazionalismo e religioni politiche nelle riflessioni di un anarchico. Nazionalismo e cultura (1937) di Rudolf Rocker

The article aims to discuss the analysis concerning the concept of nationalism developed by the German anarchist Rudolf Rocker (1873-1958) in Nationalism and Culture (1937). In this book, Rocker defined nationalism as a “political religion” and considered it as an essential premise for the construction of 20th-century totalitarian States. Consultation of Rocker’s papers, which are preserved at the International Institute of Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam, will also shed light on the difficult path that led to the publication of the book in the United States during the Rocker’s exile.
