Il caso del Teatro Sociale di Sondrio per la fisionomia del pubblico teatrale otto-novecentesco

The Teatro Sociale of Sondrio, inaugurated in 1824, between the 19th and the 20th century represents the most important theatrical centre of the whole Valtellina. Tak-ing also in consideration the importance it holds in local history, the theatre of Son-drio can be taken as an example through which recognize, from a peculiar point of view, the evolutions italian theatre faces between the two centuries. The study of the playbills stored in the archives and that of the local newspapers allowed to analyze how and when shows were staged and how they were welcomed by Sondrio's public and critics: on these basis, the following paper tries to offer a fisionomy of the theat-rical public between the 1800s and the 1900s, a public which is a provincial one, far from that of the great cities but which, as I try to demonstrate, shares with the latest the same taste: from the researching of novelty to the passion for sentimental dramas, from the piece bien faite to the new bourgeois dramaturgy.

Il Teatro Sociale di Sondrio, inaugurato nel 1824, rappresenta tra XIX e XX secolo il più importante centro teatrale dell’intera Valtellina. Considerando anche l’importanza che riveste nella storia locale, il teatro sondriese può essere preso come esempio attraverso cui riconoscere, da un punto di vista particolare, le evoluzioni a cui va incontro la drammaturgia italiana a cavallo dei due secoli. Lo studio dei manifesti conservati negli archivi e lo spoglio dei periodici locali hanno permesso di analizzare le modalità e le tempistiche con cui venivano allestiti gli spettacoli e l’accoglienza di questi da parte del pubblico e della critica di Sondrio: su queste basi, il seguente studio cerca di offrire una fisionomia del pubblico teatrale otto-novecentesco, un pubblico provinciale, lontano da quello delle grandi città ma che, come si vuole dimostrare, condivide con quest’ultimo gli stessi gusti: dalla ricerca della novità alla passione per i drammi sentimentali, dalla pièce bien faite alla nuova drammaturgia borghese.
