The review analyses the essays included in the volume Il fascismo e la storia, published by Edizioni della Scuola Normale di Pisa, 2020. From antiquity to the Middle Ages, from the French Revolution to the Risorgimento and the Great War, every era of the past was used by Fascism to legitimise its place in the present and to project into the future the new essentially Fascist identity of the Italians. This is a thematic perspective that allows us to explore Fascism’s conception of history, as well as the various positions within its ideological and cultural universe.

Abstract

The review analyses the essays included in the volume Il fascismo e la storia, published by Edizioni della Scuola Normale di Pisa, 2020. From antiquity to the Middle Ages, from the French Revolution to the Risorgimento and the Great War, every era of the past was used by Fascism to legitimise its place in the present and to project into the future the new essentially Fascist identity of the Italians. This is a thematic perspective that allows us to explore Fascism’s conception of history, as well as the various positions within its ideological and cultural universe.
