The Author makes a portrait of Carlo Smuraglia. Starting from his first studies on the role of the Italian Constitution in the interpretation of labour law, she analyses his thoguht taking into consideration the implication of the person of the worker in the contract of emploment, the use of criminal sanction in the protection of work and health and safety at work. In the end the A. analyses the contribution Carlo Smuraglia gave to labour law reforms when he was President of the Senate Labour Commission.
