The chapter presents a research in progress, aimed to collect data on European cheap and ephemeral printed products explicitly aimed at children, and, in parallel, to gather evidence of children consuming cheap print that was not specifically addressed to them. It describes some of these materials, such as ABCs, almanacs for children, and illustrated broadsides drawing transnational comparisons. More importantly, it discusses methodology and sources that are likely to enable researchers to assess the relevance of juvenile audiences in the history of what is broadly defined as popular/cheap print.

Abstract
The chapter presents a research in progress, aimed to collect data on European cheap and ephemeral printed products explicitly aimed at children, and, in parallel, to gather evidence of children consuming cheap print that was not specifically addressed to them. It describes some of these materials, such as ABCs, almanacs for children, and illustrated broadsides drawing transnational comparisons. More importantly, it discusses methodology and sources that are likely to enable researchers to assess the relevance of juvenile audiences in the history of what is broadly defined as popular/cheap print.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
