Towards human rights obligations binding on foreign investors: recent developments in the international investment framework

The present contribution analyses the presence of investor human rights obligations in the international investment framework, as they constitute a notable development in the relationship between international investment law and the international protection of human rights. It firstly addresses the legal issues arising from the imposition of direct obligations on individuals under international law to then delve into the recent practice of arbitral tribunals and investment treaties, to determine the contribution that such development can give to the protection of human rights in international investment activities.
