In recent years, tremendous global efforts have been made to tackle tuberculosis (TB). Until recently, however, the range of interventions had been mainly limited to the health domain, although social and economic determinants of TB were well known for decades. Therefore, as the global health community approaches the commitments and goals agreed upon in two recent high-level political events, a multisectoral and multidisciplinary approach is required. The global agenda for the sustainable development, crystallised within the United Nations’ (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs), needs to be fully adopted and used to act upon the social and economic determinants of TB. Those principles have been concretely enshrined in the End TB Strategy (2016–2030) developed by the World Health Organization and endorsed for global adoption by the World Health Assembly.

Abstract
In recent years, tremendous global efforts have been made to tackle tuberculosis (TB). Until recently, however, the range of interventions had been mainly limited to the health domain, although social and economic determinants of TB were well known for decades. Therefore, as the global health community approaches the commitments and goals agreed upon in two recent high-level political events, a multisectoral and multidisciplinary approach is required. The global agenda for the sustainable development, crystallised within the United Nations’ (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs), needs to be fully adopted and used to act upon the social and economic determinants of TB. Those principles have been concretely enshrined in the End TB Strategy (2016–2030) developed by the World Health Organization and endorsed for global adoption by the World Health Assembly.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
