Rufino di Aquileia, Spiegazione del credo

The Explanation of the Creed by Rufino of Aquileia, scholarly translator and correspondent of the most important Christian intellectuals of the end of the 4th - beginning of the 5th century, is a milestone for the history of Christian origins. Born as a declaration of the deep tie of Rufino with the baptismal faith received in his mother Church - the Ecclesia aquileiensis nostra -, this treatise represents the most documented source for reconstructing the development of those ancient formulas ("Creeds" or "Symbols of faith"), which were entrusted with the synthesis of belief: of Aquileia, first of all, but not only. In fact, thanks to the Explanation of the Creed of Rufino, it was possible to go back to the most ancient symbol of the Christian faith, the one kept by the Church of Rome. Perhaps also because of this conjugation of universal breadth and fidelity to the path of one's own local Church, the Explanation of the Creed of Rufino in the Latin Middle Ages became a sort of model on the subject acting as a parameter for all subsequent writings of this type. La Spiegazione del Credo di Rufino di Aquileia, erudito traduttore, interlocutore dei più importanti intellettuali cristiani di fine IV - inizi V secolo, è una pietra miliare per la storia delle origini cristiane. Nato quale dichiarazione consapevole e profonda del legame di Rufino con la fede battesimale ricevuta nella sua Chiesa madre – l’Ecclesia aquileiensis nostra –, questo trattato rappresenta oggi la più documentata fonte per ricomporre lo sviluppo di quelle antiche formule, “Credo” o “Simboli di fede”, cui fu affidata la sintesi del credere: di Aquileia, in primis, ma non solo. È infatti grazie alla Spiegazione del Credo di Rufino che è stato possibile risalire al più antico Simbolo di fede cristiano, quello custodito dalla Chiesa di Roma. Forse anche per questa coniugazione di respiro universale e di fedeltà al cammino della propria Chiesa locale, la Spiegazione del Credo di Rufino divenne nel Medioevo latino una sorta di modello in materia, facendo da parametro per tutti i successivi scritti di questo tipo.
