The contribution aims to reflect on the adoption of visual documentation for the historiography of Christian origins. The question is posed on a primarily methodological basis. The contribution focuses on the matching processes of early Christian artistic lexicon’s codification and the Testimonia collections compilations. This structural parallelism provides the prerequisite for defining a methodology aimed at making it possible to decipher and critically acquire visual documents in their entire iconic structure (not just the individual iconographic themes). The contribution recognizes typological hermeneutics – which articulates its interpretative discourse by associating codified biblical paradigms – as the common Sitz im Leben for the genesis of both the visual and the literary document in Christian origins. On this basis, it is proposed to fix in this intersection the articulation of the future methodological debate relating to the acquisition of the visual document in the historiography of Christian origins.

Abstract
On this basis, it is proposed to fix in this intersection the articulation of the future methodological debate relating to the acquisition of the visual document in the historiography of Christian origins.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
