In the last two decades, whole-body vibration training (WBVT), involving exercising on a vibrating platform, emerged as an alternative exercise modality for the treatment of obesity. In this chapter, the possible clinical use of WBVT in obese individuals is addressed, involving its effect on body composition, muscle strength, and cardiovascular function. Current research revealed that interventions lasting at least 6 weeks improved cardiac autonomic function and reduced arterial stiffness in obese women. Further, 10 weeks of WBVT produced significant weight and/or fat mass reduction, leg strength improvements as resistance training, and enhanced glucose regulation when added to hypocaloric diet. Only isolated cases of adverse effects were reported. Even though a considerable effort should still be devoted to the standardization on its therapeutic use, WBVT is a promising adjuvant intervention therapy in the management of obese patients.
