The paper presents some critical and exegetical notes on the extensive homiletic digressions in the anonymous Passio Theodosiae, which are one of the few original traits in this otherwise standard hagiographical account. These passages consist either in literal quotations from Patristic works or in original pieces inspired by Patristic and ‘monastic’ sermons and rules, which allows shedding some light on the historical context in which the Passio probably originated. The contribution is mainly focused on an excerpt about liturgical chants from Niceta of Remesiana’s homily De psalmodiae bono, and explores the relevance of this sermon for the hagiographer, as well as the role of the Passio in its medieval transmission.
