This contribution aims to present the preliminary results of the “Forgotten Borderlands” project, whose scope has been to shed light on the frontier defensive system of sixth-century Lazica by examining the remains of the network of forts and military infrastructure still standing in the provinces of Guria and Adjara. The article specifically focuses on the results from Tsikhisdziri, a site generally identified with the ancientPetra Pia Iustiniana, which has yielded a wealth of data on its post-sixth century AD history.
