This paper explores the role played by speeches in Gall. through focusing on four elaborated orationes pronounced by Caesar and his enemies over the seven books. A rhetorical and stylistic investigation displays the artful elaboration of such speeches and reveals how they are carefully employed to characterise both Caesar’s and the enemies’ ethos, in compliance with the author’s self-presentation needs.
