Italy is one of the first European countries that have started to work towards the identification of dead migrants. Unknown dead migrants relatives may be victims of severe violation of human rights since little effort is being made, so far, to identify these bodies. A pilot study was performed in order to verify the feasibility of identifying migrants victims of shipwrecks. At a national level, the Office of the Extraordinary Commissioner for Missing Persons of the Italian government is attempting to collect all data concerning unknown dead migrants from every disaster/shipwreck occurring in Italian waters, or on single decedents who arrived in the domestic ports. Experts from several universities and other agencies, coordinated by the University of Milan (LabAnOF), collected and compared thousands of AM and PM files. Despite many difficulties, the model followed has shown that by integrating various identification techniques such as odontology, anthropology and genetic, it is not impossible to identify these victims.

Abstract
Despite many difficulties, the model followed has shown that by integrating various identification techniques such as odontology, anthropology and genetic, it is not impossible to identify these victims.Pubblicazioni consigliate
