This volume is a collection of the papers delivered at the conference “Centres and peripheries in the history of philosophical thought”, held at the University of Salento in March 2018, on the occasion of Loris Sturlese’s 70th birthday.1 ‘Centre and periphery’ – the focus of the conference – are to be understood as orientation criteria regarding (1.) the history of philo- sophical thought, (2.) the geography of the world, (3.) the linguistic fragmentation and (4.) metaphorical expression of the philosophical discourse, (5.) the alternating fortune and misfortune of texts and au- thors, and (6.) the material composition of manuscripts considered as vehicles for ideas.
