This entry outlines the theological, yet not systematic thought of Lucius Annaeus Seneca. According to Cicero’s testimony (On Nature of the Gods 2.3), the Stoics recognized four main questions in theology: proof of God’s existence, definition of God’s nature, relationship of God with the universe, and divine care for the world and human beings. All these overlapping issues also offer a useful classificatory framework for most of theological passages in Seneca's works. The relationship between God and the human soul has been added to these topics as well.

Abstract
This entry outlines the theological, yet not systematic thought of Lucius Annaeus Seneca. According to Cicero’s testimony (On Nature of the Gods 2.3), the Stoics recognized four main questions in theology: proof of God’s existence, definition of God’s nature, relationship of God with the universe, and divine care for the world and human beings. All these overlapping issues also offer a useful classificatory framework for most of theological passages in Seneca's works. The relationship between God and the human soul has been added to these topics as well.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
