Abstract

The present talk attempts an identification of the various voices reporting the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea in different Russian media outlets in order to determine to what extent the national news discourse on this particular issue can be considered remarkably uniform, or, instead, whether it is possible to talk about the existence of competing narratives. I shall organize the talk into four sections: first, I briefly outline the analytical framework; in the second section I present my research questions and material; then I present and discuss the main findings sorted by source; finally, I try to draw some preliminary conclusions.
