This essay presents some pages from the original typescript of The Shadow Lines. The typescript has been transcribed in order to make it available to scholars. A few comments have been added about the differences between the typescript and the final version. The differences here discussed refer to changes in the plot, in the characters’ names, and to stylistic choices.
