The rehabilitation of patients with dysphagia has never been specifically addressed in Italy. The swallowing center is a interdisciplinary organisation devoted to management of medical and surgical problems related to deglutitory function. The combined effort of radiologists, gastroenterologists, neurologists, otolaryngologists, geriatricians, speech therapists, dietitians, surgeons, and others, allows a highly qualified patient evaluation and forms the basis for an effective rehabilitation program.
