The device of the frame became a theoretical object at the beginning of the 20th century (thanks to Georg Simmel's reflections, who showed its philosophical dignity) at a time when the artistic avant-gardes were preparing to radically deconstruct its legitimacy, to the point of rejecting it altogether. Similarly, one might wonder whether today's intense reflection on the notion of the screen is not a symptom of a similar crisis, caused by the extremely rapid and technologically sophisticated development of screens that (as in the case of virtual reality helmets) seem to deny themselves, promoting an experience of presence and immersion in the image, which is experienced more as an environment to be inhabited than as an object to be projected or placed on a defined surface. This paper attempts to compare the frame and the screen in their "critical" moment, showing the role that "framing" and "de-screening" effects play for virtual immersive environments.

Abstract
This paper attempts to compare the frame and the screen in their "critical" moment, showing the role that "framing" and "de-screening" effects play for virtual immersive environments.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
