Regulation 2016/1103 on matrimonial property regimes and Regulation 2016/1104 on the property consequences of registered partnerships were adopted by the Council of the European Union on 24 June 2016. The two texts represent the outcome of an enhanced cooperation pursuant to Article 20 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU), following Council Decision 2016/954 of 9 June 2016. The Property Regimes Regulations lay down a comprehensive body of private international law rules regarding the property relationships of spouses or partners, both between themselves and in their relations with third parties. The relationships concerned are those resulting, respectively, from the marriage and its dissolution, and the registered partnership and its dissolution.
