Abstract
This paper aims to trace the real identity of Archilochus, in the attempt to distinguish the historical context of his activity from the “novelised” bios which was superimposed on him after his death. Archilochus, born in Paros but emigrated to Thasos (where he played an important role, as a singer and as a soldier, in the Parian colonisation of the island), is the “two-town-poet”: both in Paros and in Thasos he was credited with an heroic cult and became a genius loci. The information given by the extant fragments, in cross reference to the evidence of the archaeological research, allows us to reconstruct the most relevant facts of his life and to retrace the steps which led to the constitution of his “myth”.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
