La stadiazione del carcinoma renale con GD-RM (GADOLINIO-DTPA): Analisi comparativa con TC e RM diretta [Staging of renal carcinoma with Gd-RM (Gadolinium-DTPA): Comparative analysis with CT and MR]

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of contrast enhanced CT, plain MR and Gadolinium-DTPA enhanced MR in the staging of RCC. 54 consecutive patients with a renal tumor were prospectively evaluated by contrast enhanced CT and by 0.5 T plain and Gadolinium enhanced MR. T1, T2 and Gd-DTPA T1 weighted MR sequences were acquired (500/20; 2000/100; 2000/80). A correct clinical staging was obtained by CT and MR in 43/54 patients (80%) and by Gd-DTPA MR in 47/54 (87%), respectively. Gd-DTPA MR seems to be useful in the evaluation of tumor extension directly to adjacent organs, due to the different enhancement between renal cancer and other tissues. Tumor extra-capsular extension does not seem to be better determined than with contrast enhanced CT or plain MR.
