The exhibition “Manzù. Dialoghi sulla spiritualità, con Luco Fontana – curated by Barbara Cinelli and Davide Colombo, held at Castel Sant’Angelo, Rome, and Museo Manzù, Ardea, from December 8 2016 to April 17 2017. The propose of a dialogue between Manz and Fontana is unusual, but is documented. Without forcing an impossibile visual comparison, we can remember that they shared the same artistic and cultural background in Milan during ‘30s, with Persico and later “Corrente” group, and a common thinking on Medardo Rosso’s lesson. Afeter WWII, both faced the theme of sacred art, loaded of a new idea of spiritualità. Manzù and Fontana experienced the impossibility to force the liturgic reasons of Vaticano and Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, but their work on this ancient iconography was usefull for their artistic researches. Davide Colombo curated the section dedicated to Fontana and set up at Museo Manzù in Ardea. The show – from the end of ‘40s t the end of ‘50s – was arranged around three topics, suggesting a continuous relations between bronze, palster and ceramic sculpture and drawings: sculpture for Concorso per la V Porta del Duomo di Milano, coloured ceramics (crucifix, sacred tiles, atlarpieces) and projects for toms and chapels.
