Although Personal Names ending in -ωρ are attested in Greek from the earliest stage of its history, they have been less investigated as a class, mainly because they are very few in comparison with the other types of Greek PNs and because they are not a productive type, their internal structure being restricted to just a handful of patterns. In this talk, an overview of Greek PN ending in -ωρ will be given, and some observations will be made about their morphological shape and phonological variations; finally, some conclusions will be drawn about their status as a class within the system of PNs of Ancient Greek.

Abstract

Although Personal Names ending in -ωρ are attested in Greek from the earliest stage of its history, they have been less investigated as a class, mainly because they are very few in comparison with the other types of Greek PNs and because they are not a productive type, their internal structure being restricted to just a handful of patterns. In this talk, an overview of Greek PN ending in -ωρ will be given, and some observations will be made about their morphological shape and phonological variations; finally, some conclusions will be drawn about their status as a class within the system of PNs of Ancient Greek.
