Le premier livre de l’Ovide moralisé à travers le paratexte

This article draws on a detailed study of the way manuscripts divide book I of the Ovide moralisé into sections and focuses on the disposition of the different kinds of initials and paratextual markers. Its aim is to analyse how the scribes identified the sections and created a hierarchy among them. The study considers the way the manuscript tradition but also the patrons’ requests limited the scribes’ freedom.
