The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of parturition day prediction through equations derived from the growth curves of biparietal diameter (BP) and deep portion of the diencephalo-telencephalic vesicle (DPTV) in the queen. The results showed that the application of both BP and DPTV formulae allowed an accurate prediction of delivery date. However, as already described in the dog, the prediction obtained with DPTV measurement was not as reliable as that obtained with BP, even though the difference was not significant. In the queen, an accurate prediction is useful to plan obstetrical assistance and proper treatments in case of prolonged gestation.
