This research proposes a new critical perspective about the Acts of (Paul and) Thecla, about their origin, and about their integration within the tradition of the Acts of Paul in the light of Thecla's controversial and stratified hagiography. The text examines the process of textual definition, assuming, according to the philological methodology established by the New Testament criticism, the theological and hagiographic history that involved the profile of Thecla of Iconium as parameters for defining the phases of production and correction of the textual materials related to it. From the initial eschatological radicalism that determined the profile of holiness attributed to the woman through the insubordination to her social role and through the condemnation of the century, up to the progressive marginalization of this figure, "disciplined" according to the new canons of holiness typified by the virgin and nun. The tortuous itinerary through which this cultural rectification was carried out left stable traces in as many phases of textual editing that, in this essay, we try to isolate and describe.

Abstract
The tortuous itinerary through which this cultural rectification was carried out left stable traces in as many phases of textual editing that, in this essay, we try to isolate and describe.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
