OBJECTIVES The aim of this paper is to report a case series of 21 patients affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in which trauma from ill-fitting denture was recognized as precipitating factor. MATERIALS AND METHODS From January 2007 to December 2015, 136 patients with MRONJ were referred to the Dentistry unit at Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital, Bergamo, Italy. For each case, we reported demographic characteristics, health history, type ofantire-sorptive therapy, MRONJ clinical features. RESULTS 21 patients were free from local risk factors but denture trauma and the clinical presentation supported a direct denture compression as precipitating factor. Four cases are here described in details. CONCLUSIONS Denture trauma is included among precipitating factors of MRONJ. This case series recommend to all dental practitioners follow-up preventive visits to patient at risk of MRONJ, with particular attention to wearers of prosthetic appliances.
