This paper aims to bring to light Michael Psellos’ exegetical method as applied to the Homeric text, especially to three passages of the Iliad. Addressing an audience of disciples, the Byzantine polygraph aims to stress the irreplaceable value of allegorical interpretation, drawing heavily on Neoplatonic tradition on the one hand and the Christian faith of the Cappadocian Fathers on the other.
