L’associazionismo religioso laicale

Through testimonies from the world of the confraternities revolving around the Mendicant orders environments, the paper aims at focusing on the complex role played within Italian society by these lay-religious associations during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, with particular emphasis on the moments in which the piety expressed by the brotherhoods became cause for convergence or rivalry between the Church and the public authorities.

Attraverso testimonianze appartenenti al mondo delle confraternite ruotanti intorno agli ambienti mendicanti, l’intervento intende soffermarsi sul complesso ruolo rivestito all’interno della società italiana due-trecentesca da queste associazioni laicali-religiose, soffermandosi in particolare sui momenti in cui la pietas da loro espressa diventava terreno di convergenza o di rivalità fra la Chiesa e i pubblici poteri.
