Nowadays, Chronic Kidney Disease is one of the most frequent diseases causing death in geriatric patients. The International Renal Interest Society classification allowed the publication of several studies from which it is possible to obtain precise indications about the management of nephropathic patients during each stage of the disease. The administration of a renal diet restricted in protein and phosphorus, the maintenance of an optimal hydration status, of the electrolyte and acid-base balance are essential to guarantee longer survival times. Therapy should minimize signs and symptoms that can compromise the quality of life (anorexia, vomit, anemia) or worsen the outcome (hypertension and proteinuria). Moreover, potential concurrent diseases such as urinary tract infections or endocrinopathies must be ruled out and controlled. The owner compliance and the use of accurate monitoring strategies can play a very important role in the management of these patients.
