John Logan’s Red is a play about Mark Rothko’s commission in 1958 to paint the so-called Seagram Murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in Manhattan and his decision to break the rich and prestigious contract in order to stay true to his art. My essay questions the reasons why the American playwright presented his play in London in 2009, and focuses on the links between art and exhibition, and art and the market – relevant issues both for the art world and theatre.

Abstract
John Logan’s Red is a play about Mark Rothko’s commission in 1958 to paint the so-called Seagram Murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in Manhattan and his decision to break the rich and prestigious contract in order to stay true to his art. My essay questions the reasons why the American playwright presented his play in London in 2009, and focuses on the links between art and exhibition, and art and the market – relevant issues both for the art world and theatre.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
