In ancient Egypt, stelae are slabs of stone or wood, of many different shapes, bearing inscriptions, reliefs or paintings. Over more than three millennia of history, the shape of stelae change very much, as well as their decoration and types of inscriptions. The functions of stelae will be presented, with many exemples, as well as the way in which these monuments have been reproduced in the 19th and 20th Centuries (paper squeezes, plaster casts, inking on transparent paper, etc.).
