Presenza di fluoruri nella rete idrica della lombardia

The purpose of this study is to analyse the concentration of fluoride occurring naturally in the drinking water of Lombardy Region, in order to highlight the clinical implications in the caries preventive strategies. Health authorities supplied the required data: II local offices out of 15 worked together on our project. Data showed that drinking water contained a low level of fluoride in most of the towns: in 95% of samples it is less than 0.3 mgIl, in 4% it is from 0.3 mgIl to 0.6 mgIl, in 1% it is equal or above 0.6 mgIl. Conclusions: 1) drinking water in Lombardy has generally lowfluoride levels; 2) therefore fluoride contained in oral hygiene products plays a main role in prevention of dental caries; 3) fluoride supplements must be prescribed holding total fluoride exposure in due consideration.
