In this paper, we study some families of symmetric functions via geometric properties of the moduli space Mg,n of n-pointed genus g stable curves. When g = 0, we work out explicit calculations, which extend previous work. In this case, our construction also yields various symmetric polynomials from codimension-one subvarieties of M0,n.
