Pacificare per governare : la signoria di Giberto da Gente su Parma (1253-1259)

This article focuses on some aspects of the Signoria of Giberto da Gente in Parma between 1253 and 1259. The first part of the article is dedicated to the analysis of conflicts and pacification in Parma in 1253. Giberto in fact gained his political power thanks to his activity of peace keeping of rival factions. His Signoria and the Popolo politics have been related, but the documents show a more complex framework. The second part of this study shows how during this period factions and the Popolo saw the Signoria as an instrument capable of giving birth to a balance of power.
