The paternity of El Burlador de Sevilla, traditionally attributed to Tirso de Molina, has been discussed following a statement of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo. Many essays and different editions by Rodríguez López-Vázquez recognize in Andrés de Claramonte the author of the first Don Juan. However, there is no documentary evidence that Claramonte intervened in the creation of the Burlador, and the various linguistic, artistic and literary historical clues accumulated by Rodríguez López-Vázquez are not valid, either because they consist in features common to the playwrights of the Golden Age, or because their meaning differs from the one given by the critic.

Abstract
The paternity of El Burlador de Sevilla, traditionally attributed to Tirso de Molina, has been discussed following a statement of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo. Many essays and different editions by Rodríguez López-Vázquez recognize in Andrés de Claramonte the author of the first Don Juan. However, there is no documentary evidence that Claramonte intervened in the creation of the Burlador, and the various linguistic, artistic and literary historical clues accumulated by Rodríguez López-Vázquez are not valid, either because they consist in features common to the playwrights of the Golden Age, or because their meaning differs from the one given by the critic.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
