Dritto is a jargon still used among merry-go-round operators and circus families and can be considered a direct continuation of the old Italian historical criminal slang (Furbesco). The article discusses the etymology of three lexemes recently entered in the lexicon of Dritto. Two of these lexemes (cestíl “silence, attention” and gavalò “assistant”) are of Romani origin, while the third (grimagliera “dentures”) represents a neologism coined through morphological units and morphosemantic processes operating in Dritto. Both strategies can account for the vitality of this jargon, one of the few which has reached the XXI century.
