The subject of this paper are verbal constructions of present German language such as: fängt an zu schreiben; er soll singen; es droht einzustürzen; sie ist am Arbeiten; er lässt sie arbeiten and of Italian language as: sta facendo, va a vedere, sta per fare, fa fare, si mette a stirare, deve lavorare etc. Their common feature is their periphrastic character. Hitherto grammatical periphrastic constructions are a key issue, especially within of Romance Linguistics, they can be found in the verbal categories of all the Romance languages, and are considered characteristic of them, which setsRomance languages apart from their common origin, the Latin language (Dietrich 1973, Bertinetto 1990). Analytical verb forms are also examined for the German language (Askedal 1999, Krause 2002, van Pottelberge 2004, Teuber 2005). This contribution aims to adopt an independent category for this complex verbal constructions even for the German language. Using concrete corpora of German and Italian and its contact varieties in Switzerland, at first I will register the language's inventory of fixed verb phrases for both languages. Based on authentic empirical linguistic data the second part of the article is dedicated on comparison of these periphrastic verb forms in Italian and German languages and their contact varieties in Switzerland.
