Replies to comments are organized along four different lines: a) the differences between classical liberalisms and political liberalism as far as the question of the border between politics and metaphysics is concerned; b) the reasons why metaphysical disagreements are redescribed in a stilized way as cognitive disputes; c) the reasons why an analogy is suggested between metaphysics and religion and the disputants are described as “believers”, even if their moral commitments are not strictly religious in kind; d) the problematic meaning of agnosticism as a metaethical and as a normative requirement in political liberalism.
