The literature has shown that in present times the construction of coalitions between trade unions and other social forces has become an increasingly relevant phenomenon. This is most apparent in some countries than in others, mostly due to the level of institutional embeddedness of trade unions within each industrial relations system. Starting from an analysis of the recent «Fight for $15!» campaign, carried out by a coalition of trade u- nions and organisations of local communities to organise and improve the conditions workers in the American fast-food industry, this paper elaborates on the reasons pushing trade unions to coalition-building and reflects on the renewed emergence of such phenomenon also in the Italian context.

Abstract
The literature has shown that in present times the construction of coalitions between trade unions and other social forces has become an increasingly relevant phenomenon. This is most apparent in some countries than in others, mostly due to the level of institutional embeddedness of trade unions within each industrial relations system. Starting from an analysis of the recent «Fight for $15!» campaign, carried out by a coalition of trade u- nions and organisations of local communities to organise and improve the conditions workers in the American fast-food industry, this paper elaborates on the reasons pushing trade unions to coalition-building and reflects on the renewed emergence of such phenomenon also in the Italian context.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
