To understand in a deeper way the Milan’s community, we decided to explore the images of citizenship, its values and how they change in the time. To do that we analyze the inaugural addresses of the Milan’s mayor from the postwar period (1945) since today using a mixed methodology (as qualitative and discursive as quali-quantitative through the use of the software SPAD. T). One of the main dimensions that organize the speeches compare representations and values used during moments of institutional crisis and social change from the ones typical of moments of social and institutional development. It is possible to underline different ways in the history of Milan to effort a moment of crisis by appealing to different values and presenting different symbolic images of the citizens, the city, its institutions and the mayor itself.
