This special issue collects eight essays, developed from the discussions that took place during the second workshop “Gender Inequality and Italian law” (January 14-15, Milan, Italy). Each essay addresses problems of gender equality within a single field of Italian law in force, and in particular within labour law, penal law, bioethics law, and international law. The underlying theme is investigating how the Italian law copes with the alternative between a request for equal treatment, which tends to overrun the very idea of genres, but which brings with it the danger of leaving unchanged the social inequalities and does not take into account the specificities related to the female sex, and a policy more careful to the women’s needs, which, however, often is associated with the revival of patriarchal stereotypes.

Abstract
This special issue collects eight essays, developed from the discussions that took place during the second workshop “Gender Inequality and Italian law” (January 14-15, Milan, Italy). Each essay addresses problems of gender equality within a single field of Italian law in force, and in particular within labour law, penal law, bioethics law, and international law. The underlying theme is investigating how the Italian law copes with the alternative between a request for equal treatment, which tends to overrun the very idea of genres, but which brings with it the danger of leaving unchanged the social inequalities and does not take into account the specificities related to the female sex, and a policy more careful to the women’s needs, which, however, often is associated with the revival of patriarchal stereotypes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
