This volume is the final output of a project started in 2013 on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Scandinavian Section of the University of Milan. The article deals with Lübeck's Burgomaster Jürgen Wullenwever (before 1488-1537) and his disputable foreign policy with Denmark for the commercial predominance. In the background of Reformation and of the late Hanseatic sea trade, the work offers a discourse analysis of the documentation of the time (ed. Georg Waitz 1855-56) in order to clarify whether the burgomaster played a positive or negative role in Lübeck's society.
