Impetigo is a superficial infection of the skin caused by staphylococci and/or streptococci. It is the most frequent bacterial dermatitis in infancy: it occurs mainly in preschool-aged children, particularly during the summer. The disease is contagious: it is not rare to observe minor epidemics in kindergartens. The treatment is based on the use of topical antibiotics (fusidic acid and mupirocin).
