Repeat breeders are cows which cycle normally, with no overt clinical abnormalities, and which have failed to conceive after at least three consecutive inseminations The PRP is an important source of growth factors and chemokines that promote ri-epithelialization and could be a growth factor supplementation also for the embryo. In our first experiment we cultured in vitro bovine embryos with 5% PRP and 5% fetal calf serum (FCS) and obtained a significantly (P<0.001) higher blastocyst production compared to control with 10% FCS alone. In the second experiment we evaluated the effect of intrauterine infusion of 5 ml of PRP 48h after artificial insemination, on conception rate in repeat breeder dairy cows. Conception rates were 64.62% (42/65) in group A (treated with PRP) and 32.31% (21/65) in group B (control) (P<0.05). These preliminary data suggest that intrauterine infusion of PRP may improve conception rate, making the uterine environment more appropriate for embryo survival.
