Biopsia chirurgica delle lesioni subcliniche della mammella su repere metallico

The necessity to arrive at early diagnosis of breast cancer when this is preclinical, has made that diagnostical screening protocols have been introduced. The demonstration of not yet palpable lesions by means of a mammography and the impossibility to determine with certainty the characters of malignancy make a biopsy test necessary. In a period of 24 months we examined 36 patients who carried a non-palpable breast tumour and who therefore needed a surgical biopsy to arrive at the right diagnosis; we positioned a metallic guide in the suspected lesion, after that we carried out the taking. The use of surgical biopsy on a fine needle guide, presents a further improvement for what concerns the early diagnosis of breast cancer; although it is an invasive method it offers certain advantages: it allows an easy finding of the lesion and it is the only electively predictive test.
