The Istorietta troiana, written between the XIII and XIV centuries, is one of the jewels of the ancient Tuscan prose. After having written an essay about the philological aspects of the text and waiting for the critical edition to be published, the author addresses the brief work’s linguistic, stylistic and compositional issues in this contribution. On one hand, a Florentine dialect characterized by the presence of the stil novo tradition arises, whereas on the other hand the style is fluid, ductile and pays a special attention to the rhythmical value of the text. The composition of the Istorietta poses numerous issues, concerning both the real consistency of the text (that translates only a part of its source) and the relationship with Ovid’s Heroides, handed down by the same manuscript, but likely belonging to a different author, albeit culturally similar.
